Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life. John 8:12 The Son of God, who came to earth as a man about 2,000 years ago, was the light of the world. He shone into people’s lives and revealed what was in their hearts. Thus, they were placed in the divine light and recognised their lost condition before God. At the same time, the light showed them the way to salvation: whoever believed in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, would not be judged. But most turned away from this bright light because they didn’t want to repent and turn from their sins. They preferred to stay in the dark: “Men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil” (John 3:19). It is no different today. Many do not want to come to the Saviour because they are not willing to let go of their sinful lives. However, the offer of the Son of God remains: “He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” He invites every single person to come to Him and follow Him. It is about a personal decision to believe in the Lord Jesus and to hand over the leadership of one’s life to Him. Whoever takes this step is no longer in the dark. His life becomes bright because he is close to the light. Through faith he is connected to the Son of God, who gives him light for the path and real fulfilment in life.
