Moody Studio
I've had a dream for many years of building a cob or strawbale structure. This studio combines the two. The North wall is strawbale for the extra insulation, with cob wing walls extending outward to provide protection from the wind and form the rest of the building. Large South facing windows allow for solar heat gain in the winter months, and a small fireplace should be enough to heat the whole structure. My original plans call for a rocket mass heater that would pipe heat into the entire bench on the North wall, but that's hard to represent with what is offered on the site. As an artist I've always wanted a separate space for all my supplies and workspace, in this design I've combined that with a guest bedroom.
Wood storage under a bench, and a wing wall on the East to protect the door from the North wind.
Large South facing windows maximize solar gain in the winter months and provide steady light throughout the day.
Wrap around deck with a patio on the West side. Wing wall on the N and W protect from winter wind.
