Whilst in my thirties I was fortunate to live in a Mews house in the heart of Kensington in London. This three storey building was owned by my employer. He owned a group of wine bars and restaurants of which I was manger. When I lived at this address the interior was very sparsely furnished.. so I have finished the interior in a style my old boss would have wanted and brought the decor and finishes up to modern specifications. Much of the colours remain true to life and the interior layout of the building is a very true representation.

The Mews home was original built as lodgings for coachmen in regency London, with the horses living in the stables below. The stables now accommodate a different horsepower and the floors above have become million pound homes.

This image is a very true to life representation of the front entrance and narrow mews cul-de-sac frontage to the property.
The garage underneath was rented to a vintage car specialist who always parked his aqua blue Italian sports car outside.
The rear of the property had addition parking and a discreet storage area for the dustbins. In reality it also looked out onto the rear of other mews houses so artistic license has been used here to improve the visual aesthetics.
The balustrades and tied balconies are a faithful reproduction of the rear of the property.
This view would have been far more scenic than the reality of rear houses and walls.
I love this image it looks so true to life and brings back fond memories of the time I lived here.
The archway is true to life and is a feature of many mewses throughout central London.

The front entrance was fairly narrow and unimposing
As you came through the front door you found yourself in a narrow hallway with a hall table, mirror and a step flight of stairs up to the main sitting area. This area has been decorated as it was when I lived there.

As you came to the top of the staircase the sitting area appeared in view. The red chesterfields the fireplace and positioning of the windows are all an accurate representation of the layout as it was approximately 30 years ago.
The red chesterfield sofas where beloved by the owner and I would like to imagine they still occupy pride of place in this sitting area today.
As my boss and I worked in the hospitality industry I have selected a few wine artworks to decorate the walls with.
The decor has been tweaked to accommodate todays lifestyles but has the same masculine vibe and general appearance as in the late 80s/90s when i sat and relaxed in this room.
True to life a dining table for 6 sits in front of the french windows.. much entaining was done at the weekends here.

In reality the kitchen when i lived here was no where near as luxurious.... but I like to imagine theres has been a swanky refurbishment along the way.
This room deliberately has no television as my boss whos home it was never intended to have one.
Stairs played a big part of the interior of this home and they can be seen here leading up to the top floor.

The interior of this living space is definitely one the owner would have approved of.... I feel like I have stepped back in time recreating this home and had so much fun bringing the home to life with a modern day facelift.

The discreet recycling area neatly hidden behind walls and foliage to the rear of the garage.
bedroom and ensuite
Perhaps the bedroom area and the entire top floor have had the biggest makeover in this design, although one item that is exactly as it was is this sleigh shaped bed in rich mahogany wood.
I have tried to incorporate the masculine vibe and original colour scheme this home has all those years ago.
This seating area is another embellishment the original interior didn't have ... but one I think the owner would have loved.

A semi partition wall has been constructed using back to back storage units and wardrobes, allowing this area to be used as a home office.
The light an airy bathroom was smaller in reality with just a bath and overhead shower but like all good storybook this room has a happy ending with a extended space to accommodate a large bath and separate biltin shower unit.
The shower unit is an extra feature the original owner would have appreciated and I wish we had remained in contact so i could have shown him the fun I've had recreating his beautiful London Mews property.

We need a different angle and composition of the picture) to make the interior look even cooler!

If it is a luxury to have an apartment like this in the heart of London, not to mention when you have a garage space and a Porsche at your doorstep. The interior is wonderful with that red chester sofa presiding over the living room. Beautiful design dear Karen

This was such a treat! Getting to see where you lived in London for a period in your life. I loved taking this tour, knowing how accurately you must be portraying it, and learning about these mews houses. The way you designed the exterior is outstanding, and the interior has such a great layout. I especially loved getting to see what was original when you lived there and what you've modified for the update. I'm sure your old employer/ the owner would LOVE your vision for his property! This is wonderful!

This is a very special design with all the personal details attached to it!! It was a big surprise to enter and find this polished, deep and dark interior! I think the 'makeover' definitely would have brought big joy and delight to the original owner and with it a big cash inflow because the value of this property went up to the sky!! I appreciate and adore the small peek into the window of our beloved Karen!
