An African Association
This home takes subtle African influences like traditional dark hardwoods and teams them up with modern furnishings and luxurious bold wallpaper depicting African animals and lush vegetation. It is built in the style of a typical Safari home complete with pool and central courtyard. This single home is built around a central courtyard, with two corridors connecting the different rooms. A side terrace with pool and alfresco dining area looks out over the African veld. The interior is a mix of dark woods, flamboyant wallpapers and natural tones African Style.
The pool has a covered area to give shade and great views across the valley.
The exterior is a pleasant mix of white brickwork, dark woods and complimenting tiles
Small influences of African traditional culture decorate some of the walls.
Alfresco dining area complete with fire pit.
A covered lean-to adds protection from the sun and the sometimes high plains winds.
The sitting room is a subdued mix of African hardwood, rattan furnishings and neutral contemporary furnishings.
The flamboyant wallcovering depicts exoctic African creatures.
The room has triple access to the outside seating areas.
The side entrance to the pool area and old watermill.
The huge bedroom is neutral and calming and has a space for a sitting area.
Like all the house dark wood contrasts with the pale bedding and other furnishings.
the wallpaper is the same as the sitting room but this time in a silver and grey finish.
The home is built around this central courtyard, providing an option seating or entertaining area.
Plenty of local foliage on display in this area.
The rooms overlooking this courtyard are the hallway and passage area within the home.
The bathroom is bold and dramatic with a raised tub situated to enjoy the valley view.
A tradition African wallpaper acts as a mural across one wall. There's also a built in shower as an alternative to the bath.
A great place for a soak.
The hallway has fabulous wallpaper and is maybe has the most glamour of this home.
The central courtyard seen through the window is visible from most rooms in the house.
I love this shot as there's almost an optical illusion that all that you can see is just one room.... as the courtyard merges with this hallway.
Subtle light diffuses through this home, offering enough light without the glare of the sun and her heat to spoil the cool interior.
An almost modest kitchen with more teak wood units and the flooring used in much of the property.
A simple workbench style bar complete with drum stools is positioned to one side of the room.
The kitchen space is informal and has areas to relax as well as perform culinary tasks.
Dare to be different is maybe the motto for this interior with its subtle blend of tradition, modern and maybe a little unexpected rolled into one. With just enough flavour of Africa along the way.
great colorful house!

Fabulous home Karen, it’s stunning!! I’d love to take the grand tour in person! And being an avid animal person, I love the animalistic art pieces and would love to see these animals that are native to this beautiful continent… 🐆🦓🐘🐊🦏🦛👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Ohh this feels so authentic and it is so beautiful!! I love the drama the wallpaper added - just peppered in enough to make a statement. And the exterior shots look spot-on for what I know of Africa (from our African mate!) You alway impress me with your finishes -- the wood throughout is perfect and I love how you built so thoughtfully to accomodate the potential harsh sun coming in. There is a shot of a hallway that literally made me gasp -- so dramatic and so gorgeous! But every room in this house is amazing!
