The Village
It takes a village to raise a child, but that same village needs to look after the elderly. In this design I wanted to try and demonstrate a little village where the lifestyle is to care and to be cared for. A block of six little houses with cobbled walkways and each their own little pergola set in the beautiful surroundings of a park like environment. On one side the cobbled path leads you to the community center where meals are prepared and social gatherings held, the other side it leads you to the pool and entertainment area with enough fresh air and space for exercise.

Red brick and concrete, sustainable and environmental friendly. One house prepared as a show house and all the other fitted out with the same fixture, but left as a blank canvas for the client's own choices. Imagine a few blocks like this making up a whole village.

Bathroom
Bathroom small, but spacious enough for a good size luxury shower!
Vanity was chosen with enough storage space.
Bedroom
In the show house they kept the color palette neutral and did not clutter the room. The style was done more to the contemporary modern style and definitely not the typical outdated granny style. Bay windows was fitted to create extra space for seating.
Ample storage is so necessary in small spaces like this.
They thought of the view out and created a green wall to bring in some nature and a feeling of growth and wellbeing.
By the front door of each little house a covered pergola was fitted for a bit of private space.
Of course there is a bike! You are never too old to ride a bike!
Try and imagine yourself strolling between the houses on the cobbled paths, greeting friends and having coffee or lunch dates.

Big resort style pool was fitted for entertainment but also for exercise!
At the community center there is wonderful garden areas to meet up and relax.
Living and Dining Room
By the entrance is the doors leading into the bedroom and from there into the bathroom.
Small kitchenette was fitted with enough storage space. Main meals are taken at the community center or being delivered from there, so no need for a big kitchen. A counter was fitted on the side serving as a table for meals.
A television area was created.
With the inclusion of the bay window seat, enough seating in the room. Storage was created in the bay window.
Color palette was kept neutral and décor uncluttered. Thanks for touring the Village with me! Let's keep in mind that the elderly of today are highly capable people and with their own distinct style and preferences. Let's honor them and look after them with love and care. They are the Village!

Ohh what a brilliant little complex. I would want one of these gorgeous apartments at any age..not just once i had reached retirement age. So stylish and beautifully appointed with the most delightful communal gardens. How cleverly you set out this development Hester once again proving how talented you are with any design challenge. As I wandered around from one fabulous space to another I was laughing at how far removed this was from my own grannys retirement bungalow. This setup is the creme de la creme of aged accommodation and everything I dream of finding myself in later years. Wonderful and Bravo!!
