Family Lodge
We are designing a multigenerational housing development (detached modest single family and townhomes) with a shared recreational facility for our family. This is that facility.
Needs dictated the overall floor plan. For example, the theater is laid out for optimal surround sound, with 8" thick walls that taper outward slightly from the large projection screen. A large, open kitchen was a must to allow for 3-4 active cooks for holiday gatherings.

From the main entrance, you can see the theater entrance, the video game room and the bathroom hall. Immediately to the right is the entrance to the media server and projection room.

The bathroom hall offers a touch of opulence with beautiful wall textures and wall of mirror "suns."

The open plan communal space opens via a wide archway into the widest part of the main hallway, just outside the video game room.
The janitorial closet holds cleaning supplies and connects the interior of the space to the storage room.
One of two bathrooms featuring a bold black and white tile pattern on the walls.

A soundproofed room large enough for video gaming, VR gaming or flex space. Imagine parking kids/teens here!
Lighting is provided by overhead can lights, wall sconces, and a set of spotlights (allowing the room to be used for lectures or other purposes not requiring the projector).
The theater features raked seating, a chaise and soft ottomans for flexible, comfortable seating.
The layout of the kitchen promotes conversation with guests seated at the island, at the tables or even in the sitting area.
To take advantage of mild Pacific Northwest weather and a love of the outdoors, two large folding glass walls open to connect the inside to a spacious patio overlooking the grand view.
A large, spacious kitchen is crucial for allowing 3-4 family members to cook during holiday gathering and parties. Dual ovens, a microwave and a steam warming oven compliment the five-burner range.

The sitting area is meant to provide a conversational space during gatherings, and to act as a reading area at other times. It features a large book case, electric fireplace and a dramatic accent wall.

A large, open, multi-use space is the heart of the family lodge.
