Personally, I've always thought red to be a poor choice as a main in a bedroom colour scheme. Bedrooms should be soothing and mellow, and red is just too stimulating of a colour.
Still, I think it works here. It's bold and eye-catching, but the lack of dark contrasting colours make it bearable.
