lift up the item first then push it backwards until it reaches the place where you want to put it and if it shrink so much just resize it. when you think you're in the right place bring it down (same two fingers with lifting). you will know if it's really on the right surface when it go through it. then just bring it back up. once you see a shadow appear on the surface from the bottom of the item then you are on the right level already.

oh then to items lift up object swipe with two fingers (index & mid) to move items backwards swipe with one finger upwards and swipe one finger to go forwards.
