So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11
The story goes that the Cuban head of government, Fidel Castro, wanted a Bible for a certain occasion and had it ordered from the Bible Commission. The Bibles available at the time were simple copies with a coloured cover. Fidel Castro was not very impressed with this book and asked if there was any other edition available. “What kind would you like?” asked the person in charge of the commission. “A large, black Bible with a golden cross on the cover,” was the answer. Unfortunately, this edition was not available. To obtain such a Bible, an import permit was needed.
“If that’s all it is,” Fidel Castro explained, “how many Bibles do you want to import? 10,000? 100,000?” After some thought, 10,000 copies seemed reasonable to start with. So began an import campaign that led to the “One Million Bibles for Cuba” project.
God knows where each of these Bibles has gone. His Word will also do what pleases Him in Cuba. It will bring the love of God to the people and call them to repentance and personal faith in the Saviour. What the apostle Paul writes in 1 Timothy 1:15 also applies to the people of Cuba: “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”.
