Mosaic Owl
This is a spotted owl with a wingspan of 45 inches average weight of 1.3 lb. Stix occidentalis is a true species of owl living in old growth forests in Western North America where it nests in tree hollows,old birds of prey nests.This owl is under pressure from habitat destruction and is currently classified as a near threatened species. Sad because Owls feed mainly on rodents. Did you know their flight is silent because of their wing feathers thus enabling them to hunt without being heard, they hunt in the dark because they are nocturnal. I feel sorry for all the damage we humans have caused many species of animals far and wide to be endangered, extinct because of man’s greed constantly taking trees and habitat to build more malls and houses and more. Truly a sad day approaching when animals are no more unless we all help like not always needing a new home , buy a home on the market or have homes made of man made materials.
