Commercial design: Vintage gifts and art.
This is a commercial design in an old town with lots of tourist attraction from the lovely old buildings and cobble paved walkways. The warehouse type building was divided in different functional sections. One area the Vintage gift shop named SPLENDID, the second space is for the art gallery, ART HEAVEN and in the open atrium space with it's impressive glass roof, there is a small flower shop named PETAL. Outside is a big terrace for patrons to sit down and enjoy the views while deciding on what to buy! And then in the adjacent building is a small boutique for second time around clothing.
The building was kept intact as far as possible with it's rustic and antique brickwork and almost industrial finishes. The impressive glass roof was fitted over the one part to create an oversized atrium.
This is the inside of the small retro clothing boutique.
It is small and very exclusive.....clothes going around for the second time is very popular and this little shop has it's regulars!
The boutique got an almost modern appearance on the exterior, but they kept the age old bricks to build it with, paired with glass and industrial steel elements.
This is the street face of the little shopping complex if you could call it that! The cool terrace and big open doors with lots of glass perfect to entice the customers to come in and feast their eyes!
This is the view when standing on the terrace and looking towards the old buildings that surrounds the area. The cobble stoned paving of the streets was repeated on the terrace.
On the terrace....one of the seating areas....and always in the shade of the lovely trees that was left to grow up towards the sky!
The terrace was flanked on both sides with impressive arched walls and an antique wall finish. The antique light fittings and street lamps helped with the ambience of the space.
They added this build in garden beds and planted it with exotic plants to stimulate the senses and add green to the space.
On one side of the building they left the banksia rose to climb up the wall and grow undisturbed!
The abundance of flowers in this little flower shop in the atrium!
Don't leave before you bought a bunch of flowers!
There is always a selection of plants to buy also!
On the wall the pretty name for the pretty flower shop! PETALS!
In the atrium is this organic shaped couch for the convenience of the visitors to sit down and enjoy the view into the wide open doors from the gift shop and art gallery. It was covered with a good linen and flax material. And then on the top just the little antique damask pattern.
This iron structure is greeting you by the door......
Sitting inside and looking out......how good is the view!
On the side of the building is the art gallery: ART HEAVEN!
Splendid.......or should we say SPENDIT? The name of the gift shop filled with collections of different dtyles of gifts But please see the impressive glass roof!
In the art gallery you'll find different zones with different collections. On this picture the collection of rich gold items and the wonderful colored glass vases. The chair was upholstered in a hand printed fabric from a local artist.
In this gallery it's not just about the collections of art and furniture pieces, but also about the lights and light fixtures that can be an art form on it's own. Impressive ceiling lights, wall lights, adorable quirky monkey light and the gorgeous dancing figure!
A seating area to sit and admire the artwork and to try and show it in the normal setting of a home. But in this gallery everything is for sale, so someone might just be buying the seat you're sitting on!
This is the collection of glass domes and deep brass items. And in the background there is always the feast of wall art!
This is the view out into the atrium from the inside of the gallery.
The industrial bones of the building also called for some industrial touches inside. The seats on the right and in the tables right in front steel was used to great effect. And also see the collection of coffee tables carrying the glass ware.
This is a wonderful collection of art and frames paired together on the wall! and who can miss the gorgeous dancing lady holding a light!
Against the wall see the wonderful industrial bones of the steel cabinet. Paired with a collection of monochrome art work.
Big window for the best view out! And then one of the most talk about figures in the gallery!
In the gift shop, standing behind the counter.....
On the right hand wall of the counter is one of the big shelves hosting a collection of mostly ethnic inspired items.
Collection of antique suitcases perfect for storage of toys. And also spread through the shop is the collection of baskets and woven items.
A gift shop is all about collections and to pair the items in such a way that they compliment each other and entice the buyer to buy not just one item.....
The view from the inside of the gift shop out into the atrium and way beyond that the lovely old buildings in the street.
In this picture is the collection of white crockery in the industrial steel cabinet.
In the front of the shop, right under the eyes of everyone who enters is this table loaded with exquisite glass items and gorgeous bath products that stimulate not only the sense of vision, but also the sense of smell.
The blue and white corner.
See the collection of wall clocks on the opposite wall.....and the selection of natural wood side tables carrying the luxurious bath products and towels of the best cotton and bamboo mix.
Collection of mirrors on the wall and the collection of rattan light fixtures.....all showed against the concrete look of the wall covering.
i love everthing about it! This is splendid!

in reality i would have spent a fortune inside here. But with the joy of virtual shopping i have left your outlet loaded with bags upon bags without having to spend a cent. It has been a JOY to look around here Hester.... each area was quite incredible .... and as always a testament to your immense talents. I was enchanted by the details and ambience; the texture and the colours and the way you had displayed the merchandise. Your outside terrace was a beautiful space to catch your breath and i happily could have lingered here for an hour taking in the beauties of all you had created. A TOTAL Triumph of your first commercial venture...looking forward to many more. WOW!!!
