Sleepout bedrooms - that is a lean-to built on the back veranda of a house - is a very common sight in rural Australia. They are generally used for the eldest child in the family. It is considered a privilege as it gives the teenager privacy from younger siblings and adults. Admittance of a friend is welcomed , and music can be played without disturbance.
