I have been looking at the home builders in Australia and I am disappointed. Now I understand that home builders aim to mass-produce houses. But why are they mass producing these McMansions with three tiny bedrooms and one gigantic master suite, two living rooms, a study, a home theatre and teeny, tiny windows?

All I wanted was a simple design, you know, three bedrooms, one multi-room and big, double-height windows. something easy to clean that I could grow into. A family home. So I decided to design it myself.

While I was designing this I wondered, why aren't house designs like this already flooding the markets? Housing in Australia is more expensive than ever. Surely making simpler designs like this one would reduce the cost. Now, don't get me wrong the house I have designed is still a very large house. But it isn't a sprawling expanse of tiny bedrooms and extra rooms that no-one has the time to clean.

Well without further ado, the queen of simplicity herself, the most basic of all homes, I call her, Becky.
