The Neighbors
I pretended to take a photo of the Maw, my rescue cow, with these beautiful purple butterflies & under normal circumstances I would think that was the luckiest photo of all time, but as you can see, they weren't my true focus. My seemingly perfect new neighbors were. Perfect by day, I should clarifyThey, the Shores, as I've come to learn, moved in several months ago & over the weekend unpacked their yard belongings. At first glance, they look like a dream come true, but even Maw can sense something isn't right.
About a week after they moved in, I couldn't sleep, so I did what I often did when the weather is nice, I went outside onto my porch to look at the stars. It's not a habit my sleep therapist has fully signed off on, but it calms me to see all the white little twinkles in the navy blue sky. Living out as far as I do, it's like the stars shine as if just for me.Anyway, I remember I put my robe on, and my black cat, Lucky, followed me outside and as I sat down in the rocking chair, he jumped into my lap. It was about 10 minutes later, just as I was gearing up to go back to bed, I see a dark figure moving across the horizon. I reached down and pulled out the binoculars I use for birds, and focused in on the figure. He appeared to be in all black, wearing a cap, and was creeping thru the night. I momentarily panicked, thinking my new neighbors were about to be a v*ctim of home invas*on, when suddenly the figure stopped. The figure peeled off the cap, reached into the well, and pulled out a backpack from the well's bucket. I audibly gasped and was glad I was so far away I couldn't be heard. I watched a man change out of the black clothing and into what appeared to be pajamas and return the bag. He then went right up to the front door, unlocked it, and went inside. Two days later I read about reports of a break-in at the mayor's house, and they are unsure what was taken, if anything.
Sinc then, I've opened my own investigation into the Shores...
