According to data from NAHB, there is a rising demand for adaptable bedrooms and dedicated work areas in homes as family structures diversify. In my approach to designing five-bedroom duplex floor plans in Nigeria, I perceive the layout as an early blueprint that accommodates the needs of the upcoming decade, focusing on hybrid work arrangements, climate resilience, and intricate social interactions—using tools like Homestyler for spatial reasoning.

Courtyard Spine Duplex

Design Concept: A central courtyard functions as a thermal buffer, with rooms arranged around this space, facilitating both daylight entry and privacy—strategically designed to withstand solar gains and extreme heat.

Flow: The layout transitions seamlessly from the entry to the foyer, then to the living area, courtyard, and finally onto the dining and kitchen area. The guest suite is conveniently positioned at the front, while family suites are located upstairs surrounding a light well, creating a controlled circulation loop.
