Archive Farmhouse Old
In 1797, David Abbott began his homestead with a south-facing 18' x 36' cape with loft and center chimney, in the English tradition. With 10 children, the Abbotts added a 26' x 32' 2 story with loft cape structure also facing south, then added an 18' x 25' backhouse connecting the living quarters to a 40' x 60' Yankee barn, in the local 'connected farmhouse' custom.
My family bought the farmhouse in 2003, but lost it to fire in June of 2020. We are using 2 antique timber frames (former barns, 24' x 28' and 30' x 40') as bookends with am 18' x 36' ICF connecting building in our rebuild.
