Container house in the mountains.
They used three shipping containers to build this house, in the outback in the mountains. One container of 12m was sub divided into a bedroom at one end, bathroom at the other end and kitchen in between. Another container of 5,89m was added to make room for a dining space and then the last container of 5,89m was added with a little breathing room in between, to form the living room. The width of 2,33m were kept the same, but walls on the long sides were opened to seamlessly join them together.
They kept the finishes of the shipping containers intact, but added some wooden cladding in some spaces. the floors were made of a seamless terazzo concrete finish to create a flow. For future renovations, more containers can be added to the roof area to create more rooms.
Living in a small container house in the mountains is not just about the inside, but mostly also about the outside living space. Therefore they added a wrap around decking area to the house to create that extra outside living space.
This is the outside views from their little 'tin' house in the mountains. Lots of fresh air and majestic scenery. Life could not get better than this.
Breakfast in the open air!!
The bathroom door on one side of the shipping container......with kitchen in between!
Bedroom door on the opposite side of the bathroom.
Fully functioning kitchen with ample storage.
With the long sides of the shipping containers opened, the rooms flows seamlessly together. This is the view from the kitchen through the dining space into the living room.
Storage will always be a big challenge in small spaces like this, therefore the dining space was flanked with two big storage units on both sides.
With big windows on either side, the light was streaming in and brought with it the magnificent views.
What is called the courtyard here is actually the little breathing space between two shipping containers to allow a bit for more space in the areas as they kept the width of the containers, which is only 2,33m, intact.
Showering in a steel cavity.......might be something totally different!
Rich wood finishes were used in the bathroom to keep it earthy and rustic. Storage in the vanity another necessity.
one could almost get the feeling of having a shower outside in the mountains!
Here you can get a glimpse of the original door of the container which was kept as a front entrance.
In the last narrow shipping container is the living room. But it was necessary to add the little breathing space between two containers to be able to fit the furniture in. As you can see the original steel finish of the container was kept intact in all the spaces.
They took extra care in the bedroom by adding a ceiling fan for temperature control
Yes the bedroom is narrow.....yes, the space is limited, but they did whatever they could to make it homey and beautiful and comfortable. Ample storage in the closet and in the big drawers under the bed.
fantastic!! :)
