Private "Sleep Kiosks" also known as "Nap Huts" line the busy avenue in Central Park, Herald Square, Wall Street and Greenwich Village to give commuters, office workers and other travelers a nice place to take a timed nap, rest or siesta during the work week. These open air nap beds are available by appointment or walk in availability. Each sleep kiosk is timed for 15 minutes intervals and customers can stay for up to 60 minutes. There are attendants who manage the rotation of guests and prep the nap huts for the next napper. Phase 1 of this new initiative is being rolled out by the Health & Human Services Department in New York city. If this pilot program works well, more sleep kiosks/nap huts will be added to more locations through out Manhattan. Currently the price is $1.00 per minute in blocks of 15 minutes up to 1 hour. They are already a hit with the Wall Street finance crowd downtown and more units are already on order. Midtown is a bit noisier but bustling with many new nappers daily. Engineers are looking to soundproof and modify the nap huts to work better in the super noisy transportation and shopping hubs. Other sleep kiosks as well as tiny homes are also being evaluated to help house the homeless population and eradicate this problem for once and for all.
