Starter home: The yellow door
Using the beginner guide as starting point and updating it, this starter home was designed for a couple who is trying to make a life in the big city, while still completing after grad studies. The house was styled with industrial inspired décor material and in a modern loft style perfect for a young and modern couple. Surely it is not difficult to spot the couple's favorite color! When there's lemons, make lemonade!
The beginner guide was updated into a two bedroom, one bathroom apartment. The kitchen flows into a dining room and that flows into an open plan living area.
The dining room is spacious and was decorated with a big industrial inspired dining table which most of the time also doubles as a study desk.
They say yellow is the color to spark creativity.....and that was what this couple did by adding all the lemony splashes all over the place!
If you could paint the front door in any color thinkable, the why not as yellow as yellow can be!!
The hallway leads straight into the bathroom, like most apartments of this size always do.
In the bedroom they used the mirrored doors of the wardrobe to cast off the light from the windows and to create extra dimension in the room.
Color and pattern.......and all lives together!
Stacking shelves in the bright lemon yellow......perfect for extra storage in the bedroom.
I need more sleep......is that not the need of any good student!
The wow factor of the kitchen is the black herringbone tiles. Comfortable with ample storage and well equipped for any lifestyle!
And there is the splash of yellow!!! Paired with the lime green on the little stools, it's a match made in heaven!
In the living room they used a melody of yellows with the deep dark charcoal! They added some industrial inspired elements in the fireplace to enhance the atmosphere!
In the bathroom they used the mosaic pattern on the vanity wall so effectively to set off the bright citrus yellow touches.
The second bedroom was fitted with a study desk for the serious study work that is acquired!
They added a double bed which folds away into the wall which helps for added space in the room! And foxy loxy is sleeping like a baby on the bed!
The artwork is young and modern just like the couple who owns the place! Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Ohhh so HIP and totally COOL ...wow Hester you nailed this starter home and designed an apartment any young couple would long to have as their own. The sunny yellow looked glorious with the darker charcoal tones and the vibe throughout was delightfully urban. The bedroom was a masterclass in cool youthful living and that feeling was captured completely as we moved through this home. You ability to dress a space and adapt to the brief is awesome and how I LOVED this home with it industrial pieces...yes it made me wish i was in my twenties once again. BRAVO!!!

This is such a fun space and has such a happy feel! You've created such a great starter home for a young couple! Young but already showing such incredible taste and style! Such clever details such as doubling the use of the dining table as a study table And you did a video! I am so impressed! It's all so beautiful!
